Ex-lawmaker Brooks could soon be free man

Having spent nearly a year-and-a-half behind bars, former Democratic Assemblyman Steven Brooks could be released from custody Thursday, his lawyer said. Brooks pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, admitting that he had been addicted to marijuana while carrying a .357 Magnum Smith & Wesson revolver.

Snyder’s audible: Deal with UNLV stadium in 2017

CCSD tightens protocols for student testing

Security will tighten over student test materials in Clark County public schools, due to a policy change approved by the School Board on Thursday following a state investigation that found one of its Las Vegas schools cheated on state tests.

CCSD seeks state funding for portable classrooms

There may be fewer students per kindergarten teacher because of a state mandate, but Clark County School District is struggling to find room for the 167 additional kindergarten classes this creates. To make room, the district will ask the state for $3.92 million to buy 60 portable classrooms, according to a unanimous School Board vote on Thursday. State lawmakers did set aside money for portable classrooms in legislation requiring that schools reduce kindergarten classes to 21 students each.

Retired teachers to fill CCSD vacancies

Teachers in math, English, science and special education have been so hard to find that the Clark County School Board approved rehiring retired teachers Thursday to help fill these 269 vacancies.


Jets’ Patterson says no-show claims ‘completely false’
