Former UNLV athletic director Jim Weaver dies

Jim Weaver, who served as UNLV’s athletic director from 1992 to 1994 and later worked as the AD at Western Michigan and Virginia Tech died Wednesday in Blacksburg, Va., after a decade-long battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was 70 years old.

Federal tool details financial links between doctors, medical industry

A new tool can help patients discover how cozy their doctors are with pharmaceutical or medical device companies. The tool, The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Open Payments report, was created under the Affordable Care Act to show the financial relationships that exist between doctors, hospitals and health care companies.

First U.S. measles death reported in 12 years

A previously undetected measles infection was found by an autopsy to be the underlying cause of a Washington state woman’s death this spring, marking the first known U.S. fatality from the disease in 12 years, public health officials said on Thursday.
