Tim Carr has had only two jobs since graduating from high school — both in the automobile industry and both at dealerships he views as being an extension of his own family.
Carr has worked for Lexus for 15 years, first when it was owned by the Fletcher Jones family and now at Lexus of Henderson for the Ascent Automotive Group as the company’s parts manager. Ascent also owns Lexus of Las Vegas on Sahara Avenue. Before his stint at Lexus, Carr worked for Jack Biegger Nissan, another family-owned business that he liked very much.
“I love the way both Lexus dealerships are run,” Carr said. “It’s very much like a family here. What stands out is the open-door policy where everyone talks to everyone. We have an Employee of the Month award that acknowledges you and makes you feel like you are really special.”
Carr said he remembers being impressed with the training Lexus gave him when he first started working for the company. He was sent to Los Angeles the first month he was on the job to test drive vehicles he would be servicing.
“That was a real eye-opener for me,” he said. “I couldn’t believe Lexus was investing that much training in me from the start.”
Carr said he enjoys providing customers with the right Lexus parts quickly and at competitive prices. He said it’s a misconception that Lexus parts are expensive because of the moniker’s name. In actuality, he said, they are generally priced to match what Toyota charges.
“We have a fill rate of 89 percent,” he said, referring to the likelihood of having the right part in stock when a customer comes to the counter. “And if I have to order a part, if I order it by 3 p.m. it will usually be here by 7 a.m. the next day for Lexus factory parts.”
What helps the parts department the most is when customers have the right vehicle identification number for their automobile, Carr said. This will enable the parts technician to look up the exact part quickly on the computer . Many customers think giving the make, year and model of their vehicle is sufficient, but many times parts may have changed for different year models.
Also, Carr still finds that because the dealership has been open only since 2010 many people in Henderson don’t know it exists.
“Once customers visit us, we will earn their business. We have over 40 years experience with everyone who works in the parts department,” he said.
