Ford Mustang to mark 50 years at Las Vegas Motor Speedway

Ford Mustang turns 50 in April.

To help celebrate the American icon’s birthday, the Mustang Club of American will hold big parties at the Charlotte Motor Speedway and the Las Vegas Motor Speedway April 16-20.

In addition to the speedway activities, there will be a display at New York-New York.

A variety of Mustangs will be parked on the bridge. On April 17, there will be a birthday party with Ford Motor Co. executives and food inspired by the Big Apple.

As part of the week’s events, there will be a Mustang Pony Drive, which is a large caravan of Mustangs crossing the U.S. to join the official festivities.

Cars from every decade will meet in Norman, Okla., on April 13, where they can connect with the herd headed to Charlotte Motor Speedway or Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

The Las Vegas Pony Drive is stopping in Amarillo, Texas; Albuquerque; N.M.; and Flagstaff, Ariz.

There will be dinners and banquets all over town throughout the week and a half-marathon and 5K run at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Runners will have a chance to win a 2014 Shelby GTS Mustang convertible. They will also get a day pass to birthday celebrations.

“Mustang has evolved to represent far more than just a car — it’s the symbol of a high-octane lifestyle,” said Ronald D. Bramlett, executive director of the event. “The car was designed from birth to be a canvas that people could personalize for their own taste, so we did the same with this incredible celebration.

“Since our members enjoy the roar of the track, as well as participate in a broad range of other activities, we expanded the menu of choices. It will be a memorable experience for the entire family.”
