Kia Cadenza's features, value appeal to buyer


Las Vegan Bernie Kaufman has lived in Las Vegas for 46 years. As a successful businessman, he could own any car on the market.

His choice: a 2014 Cadenza he purchased recently from Findlay Kia, 5325 W. Sahara Ave.

The St. Louis native was introduced to the dealership by his son Andy who had purchased two cars there.

Once Kaufman walked in the door, Marc Lewis, used-car and marketing manager, said he had to check out the newest vehicle being offered by Kia.

“Marc told me about the Cadenza on a Friday and on that weekend I was watching the NBA playoffs. Kia was advertising the Cadenza during the game and I told my wife Barbara that I was going to order one on Monday,” Kaufman said.

Kaufman called Lewis, telling him that he wanted a blue Cadenza with a beige interior .

“This car has the roominess that I needed,” said Kaufman, who with his brother Herb ran four Wonder World stores from the 1960s until the mid-1980s. “It’s open and provides more freedom. The handling is great, too.”

He said there have been no problems getting attention with the new Cadenza, which averages 19.3 miles per gallon for gasoline with a six-cylinder engine.

“I hear people comment about this car all the time,” he said. “People tell me they want to look at one of them in the next three or four months.”

Kaufman, who now owns Ad-Tel Reservations Advertising-Connections Station at McCarran International Airport, said he took the car out on the highway where he discovered it had excellent power. He also discovered the vehicle’s air conditioning was the best he had ever experienced.

“I went out on Interstate 15 and was going 75 miles an hour. I needed to pass a truck and the Cadenza got me around the truck quickly .”

He said the Cadenza was less expensive than other high-end luxury cars but still has all the features he wanted. The vehicle was recently named the top vehicle in the full-size category by Motor Trend magazine, which noted, “It has a features list that could rival an $80,000 BMW and value that places it above its full-size brethren.”

“It’s about $8,000 to $10,000 less expensive than some of the so-called luxury brands,” said Kaufman, who was in the car rental business with Findlay Automotive Group Chairman Cliff Findlay in the 1990s. “The car has all of the features that the more expensive luxury cars have. It has the navigation system with the high-end luxury seating, which are heated and cooled.”
