Woman buys car at Planet Hyundai and gets job, too


Marlyn Majano has long been a fan of the Hyundai automobile. During a visit to Planet Hyundai Sahara in mid-May, she arrived to trade in her 2012 Sonata for a 2014 Sonata.

While dealing with store salesman Tony Fisher and his son, Josh, Majano caught the Hyundai fever more than ever before. One thing led to another and before she knew it, the native of Los Angeles and long-time resident of Las Vegas was working at the dealership.

“Josh was helping me with the delivery of my new car,” said Majano, a greeter/ambassador for Planet Hyundai Sahara. “I was looking for a job anyway, so I asked if there were any openings.”

The old saying that people only get one chance to make a good first impression is most definitely true in the car business. So when the personable Majano greets customers with a smile, a handshake and a pleasant voice, the value of her efforts are immeasurable

“I’m really into this job,” said Majano. “That I know of, there simply aren’t many automobile dealerships with a greeter/ambassador that meets every customer upon their arrival.

“However, it’s important that the customers feel comfortable when they visit Planet Hyundai to see about the purchase of a vehicle. I’m just a naturally happy person anyway, so I really enjoy the job.”

Tony Fisher, the Hyundai national salesman of the year in 2005-2007 and the ninth top salesman in the country in 2013, said Majano is very important to the dealership, which was named Hyundai Motor America’s Western Region District WE4 in 2013.

“Marlyn puts people at ease,” said Fisher. “Also, the fact that she believes in the Hyundai so much that she has had two of them is a great asset for the dealership.”

Fisher said that because Majano stands in front of the dealership for long hours no matter what the weather, she understands what sales consultants experience.

“This is not an easy business,” Fisher said, “and we all win when everyone has a good attitude. That’s exemplified by when we greet a customer entering the dealership.”

Majano, who is also bilingual, speaking both English and Spanish, has ideas of someday becoming a sales agent.

“The more I work as a greeter/ambassador, the more I think I’d like to sell Hyundais some day,” she said.

“I think that Marlyn would do very well because she has a great personality, she’s an excellent learner and a real go-getter,” said Fisher, who has been in the car business for 12 years.”

Each new Hyundai comes complete with a 10-year, 100,000 powertrain warranty along with the five-year, 60,000 full coverage warranty. The couple extended the warranty for only $8 a month creating a full 10-year bumper-to-bumper coverage.

“The warranty on a new Hyundai is incredible,” Majano said. “Then, too, I also like the fact that we also offer free car washes.”
