Hamburgers![]() Readers' Pick: IN-N-OUT BURGERSMultiple locationsDoes anyone still go to McDonald's, the Bill Gates of the burger world? Probably. But R-J readers apparently care little about kiddie playgrounds or the latest batch of tiny cheap toys to help promote a major action movie. They want an honest, no frills or weird clowns kind of burger that's cooked to order and quickly served hot with fresh cool lettuce and tomato trimmings. That's what the In-N-Out does best - forget about seasoned chicken sandwiches, trendy wraps or other unneeded menu items at these burger joints - and readers gave them the edge in voting over Wendy's, the place where red-haired comic Carrot Top started his career. That's his mug with pigtails up there on every sign in the country. Our Pick: IN-N-OUT BURGERSAnother instance in which great minds think alike. We honor In-N-Out for its simple, straightforward menu that keeps the focus on quality burgers instead of marketing schemes and "new" food items that no one cares about when he or she just wants a real hamburger. They're fast, cheaper than most, and so tasty that we don't mind digging leftover American cheese from our teeth as long as the significant other isn't watching on in disgust. "Issh goood, ah jes haf to geh dis won peesh out."
