Readers' Pick: OLIVE GARDEN ITALIAN RESTAURANT

Multiple locations
The sound you just heard was the collective moan that went up from independent Italian restaurateurs who have, in anger over their underutilized menus, called the Phoenix-based chain " just an Italian Sizzler." So be it. Oriented toward families and the working class that requires value, Olive Garden restaurants have again found a place in readers' hearts. Bottomless salad bowls and warm bread sticks apparently do the trick along with birthday sing-alongs. Second place went to one of the city's originals, Geno Ferraro's self-named authentic Italian outlet.

Our Pick: FELLINI'S

5555 W. Charleston Blvd.
You won't find pizza, Chicken Angelo, cannelloni or lasagna - Las Vegas Italian eatery staples - at this tiered 90-seat restaurant where chef Chas LaForte prefers the more rustic style of Tuscany. That means homemade breads, pastas and sauces as well as entrees such as slow-roasted lamb seasoned with garlic and herbs, grilled eggplant in lemon and caper sauce, and homemade sausages charbroiled with fire-roasted peppers and served with corn polenta. It's nice to find a white-linen place that's still casual and, equally important, has a functioning white-brick fireplace that warms the small dining room in more ways than one.
