PizzaReaders' Pick: PIZZA HUTMultiple locationsThe official pizza of the R-J's cafeteria also is pie-loving readers' favorite this year, beating Villa Pizza for first-place honors. But Villa has now won two second-place finishes in a single issue (also in second for wings), so we're checking with cheesy officials at the Pizza Hall of Fame (in Pahrump, of all places) to learn if Villa might soon be eligible for one of those "Lifetime Achievement" awards so popular on TV awards specials. ![]() Our Pick: SAMMY'S CALIFORNIA WOODFIRED PIZZA6500 W. Sahara Ave.Sammy's opened only last year with questions about how gourmet pizzas priced at $10 and up would be greeted by value-conscious Las Vegans who, when all is said and done, would really like a comp. Well, just check out the lines out the doors of this bustling business that adds salads and few other items to a pizza-powered menu. Name a combo, and they've got it or will make it for you. The blazing-hot brick ovens fueled by wood make the difference between a limp slice and one that can hold its own weight. Sammy's serves the latter - share a small one with a salad - and let us know if there's ever a quiet time when we can slip back in and keep working down the menu in peace.
