Soul food lovers don't have a wealth of options in Las Vegas, but the few that can be found serve mostly excellent Southern-based fare. Modestly appointed Big Mama's is surely among them, and readers pushed it into first place over well-regarded Kathy's Southern Cooking. Well done out there, readers.

Another excellent family-run place where everything is cooked to order to keep Sadie's perfect Southern dishes at their peak of freshness. Red beans and rice, black-eyed peas, collard greens and other reverently rendered side dishes join hearty yet healthful fish, chicken and pork entrees in this small, semimodern hideaway that's a favorite of visiting black celebrities and several Las Vegas church groups.
