Readers' Pick: OUTBACK STEAKHOUSE

Multiple locations
Many male Australians fancy themselves as today's rugged modern cowboys - they should check out the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas for much-needed pointers - and the Aussie bush-themed Outback's marinated steaks have helped it develop steady business and a second-in-a-row "Best" from carnivorous Las Vegans. Readers also liked the more expensive Ruth's Chris Steak House, awarding second place to its pair of clubby Las Vegas locations.

Our Pick: CARVER'S

2061 W. Sunset Road
The phone book says this woodsy and attractive steakhouse is still inside Las Vegas city limits, which can't please the folks in Henderson/Green Valley who have been frequenting this upscale neighborhood surf and turf. It may be their place but plenty of us who live in Sin City proper have been sneaking across town, disguised as Brooke and Andre to avoid suspicion, to enjoy Carver's great steaks and solid wine list. We also like prices that are more in line with Outback than, say, Ruth's Chris, The Palm, Morton's and other high-end quality steak outlets.
