TacosReaders' Pick: TACO BELLMultiple locationsYo quiero recount. Nah, we're not trying to dull readers' glory at seeing Pepsico-owned Taco Bell riding into first place. But we do have our doubts about Mexican pizzas and some of the nationwide chain's other new fare that could confuse the taco sales mission. Always cheap, served fast and sodium-heavy, the TB tacos prevailed over the version served at second-place Del Taco outlets. No room for small independents in this category. Our Pick: TACOS MEXICOMultiple locationsWe know what you're thinking: these R-J critics are so cheap they stop at unattractive Tacos Mexico outlets just to save a little money. So it's true. The real point is that Tacos Mexico makes a very tasty and smaller taco just like you'd find at roadside stands in Mexico. We did hesitate briefly when prices recently rose from 50 cents to 60 cents per taco, but we're minimizing the added expense by forming car pools that depart for the nearest Tacos Mexico every 15 minutes.
