Place to Go on a Budget

Readers' Pick: FREMONT STREET EXPERIENCE

Lights! Action! Freebie! When it comes to bang for your buck, it's tough to top that pulsating canopy of lights and musical accompaniment. Throw in the vintage signs from departed Strip fixtures (Aladdin's lamp is the latest to join the Hacienda's waving vaquero) and walking -- or watching -- in Las Vegas qualifies as a good time for penny pinchers and high rollers alike. Readers chose a different sightseeing haven, Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, as runner-up.

Our Pick: 'FOREVER PLAID'

Flamingo Hilton
3555 Las Vegas Blvd. South
The Plaid lads have been a hit wherever they've gone, from off-Broadway to overseas. And while some doubted that their squeaky-clean appeal would extend to Sin City, the Four Plaids are now in their fourth year as the Strip's unlikeliest, if most likable, hit. At less than $20 a pop, this has to be the best showroom bargain in town, an evening of nifty singing, wistful laughs and good old-fashioned fun that doesn't require a Megabucks jackpot to finance.
