Readers' Pick: TINA TURNER

MGM Grand Garden
Tina Turner may be pushing 60, but this pop music legend was going like 60 on May 10, when she wowed a sold-out crowd in a diva-defining showcase that found her serving up new tunes and past hits with the same sustained energy. As she explains in "Proud Mary," Turner can do it "nice and easy" and she can do it "nice and rough." Either way, the impact is the same -- and R-J readers responded accordingly. In claiming the top spot, Turner pushed the Rolling Stones' pricey Nov. 22 show (also at the MGM Grand Garden) into second place.

Our Pick: U2 'POPMART' TOUR

Sam Boyd Stadium
As lead singer Bono commented wryly prior to U2's inaugural "PopMart" concert April 25, "This is the only town on the planet where they're not gonna go nuts for a 40-foot lemon." That may be true, but we do go nuts for wacky stadium spectaculars -- especially ones in the friendly confines of Sam Boyd Stadium. U2's "PopMart" show may have been ragged and rambling in spots, but it proved Las Vegas' vitality as a launching pad for out-of-this-world international tours.
