Karaoke Bar

Readers' Pick: ELLIS ISLAND CASINO

4178 Koval Lane
Singing in the shower is one thing, but standing up in public and substituting your own voice for that of a hit recording artist takes real guts. And when R-J readers put their song stylings to the test, they like to do so at Ellis Island, a repeat winner in this category. One of the first karaoke spots in town, Ellis Island has a wider range of musical selections than most. Whether you want to be Elvis or Engelbert, Madonna or Bonnie Raitt, there's a great chance they'll have your number. Calico Jack's, another previous reader favorite, was the runner-up.

Our Pick: MOTOWN CAFE

3790 Las Vegas Blvd. South
It may be tucked into a corner of New York-New York, but sweet Motor City inspiration abounds for soul-singing wannabes who brave this stage. The purple-and-gold decor will have you imagining your name adorning a Motown record label, while the spangled costumes and wall-of-fame album covers provide visual stimuli for anyone who's ever dreamed of being a someday Supreme or a temporary Temptation. As for the music, it's still tops -- whether you're wailing a tune originally sung by the Jackson 5 or the Four Tops.
