First-Run Movie Theater

Readers' Pick: ACT III TEXAS 12

2101 Texas Star Lane
Act III makes it three-for-three, as the Portland-based circuit's Texas 12, inside Texas Station, reclaims the top spot from its crosstown movie rival, the Boulder 11 at Boulder Station. The first -- and, so far, the only -- theater circuit to offer high-quality THX presentation and digital sound in every multiplex, Act III's arrival has challenged the competition to match its standards. According to our readers, however, the original is still the best. Reeling into second: Century's Cinedome 12, but we're not sure whether readers chose the Las Vegas version or the Henderson 12-plex.

Our Pick: CENTURY ORLEANS 12

4500 W. Tropicana Ave.
It's a whole new ballgame at local first-run movie theaters, with stadium seating making it easy to see the screen, even if the person in front of you has a beehive hairdo -- or a permanently attached 10-gallon hat. But it's what's on screen that counts -- and the Orleans 12 is Century's first Southern Nevada multiplex to feature THX and all-digital sound in every auditorium. We're glad they finally stepped up to the plate and decided to compete on the same field as their Act III rivals; Las Vegas moviegoers are the ultimate winners.
