Use of Las Vegas in TV or Movies

Readers' Pick: 'CON AIR'

"Viva Las Vegas!" Nicolascq Cage quips as "Con Air's" title plane makes its final approach over the Strip. R-J readers second that emotion, saluting the suitably splashy cinematic send-off the fabulous Sands receives when the title aircraft crashes into the casino during the movie's climax. It's right up there with the Landmark in "Mars Attacks" for the coveted title of "Best Performance by a Hotel Before Its Implosion." Nothing blows up in "Vegas Vacation" -- except maybe Chevy Chase's career -- but R-J readers made it the runner-up in this category anyway.

Our Pick: 'CON AIR'

"Con Air's" big-bam-boom Las Vegas visit also showcases Hollywood's typically whimsical view of Glitter City geography, with scenes starting on the Strip and ending downtown, all through the magic of editing. And who could fail to thrill at the sight of the title plane hurtling over the Strip and snapping the neck of the Hard Rock's signature guitar before crashing into the dear, departed Sands? Now that's entertainment!
