Readers' Pick: CLARK COUNTY GOVERNMENT CENTER

  • 500 S. Grand Central Parkway
Before this $66 million center opened in May 1995, it sparked numerous complaints, with some critics blasting its imposing edifice and frill-filled amenities. Review-Journal readers obviously don't agree, once again citing the county government headquarters -- an understated combination of rich desert colors and decor -- as their favorite noncasino building. Readers paged another impressive example of public construction, the Sahara West Library, as runner-up.

Our Pick: CLARK COUNTY GOVERNMENT CENTER

  •      Now that the Luxor has permanently marred its trademark black pyramid with those blocky stairstep additions, the Clark County Government Center has the coolest-looking pyramid in town. As if that weren't enough, the center also boasts an intimate, grass-covered amphitheater that provides a perfect setting for summertime concerts under the stars, giving us a reason to visit the center even when we don't have any business to transact.
