Library BranchReaders' Pick: CLARK COUNTY LIBRARYFormerly known as "the Flamingo Library," this centrally located facility offers a solid balance of books and culture that's sometimes lacking at other libraries around town. By which we mean there's usually a good selection of books on any given topic, along with gallery exhibits and the aptly named Jewel Box Theater, a gem of an auditorium that's seen some memorable theatrical productions since the library was remodeled several years ago. Readers cited the Sahara West Library, home of the Las Vegas Art Museum, as their second choice. Our Pick: LAS VEGAS LIBRARYIn a rapidly growing place like Las Vegas, population increases outpace library acquisitions. Which is a fancy way of saying it's sometimes tough to track down books. That's why we like this downtown haven for book-lovers. It shares the building with Lied Discovery Children's Museum, so there's not as much foot traffic -- and many of those who do use the library seem to prefer to read on-site rather than check out materials. Besides, it's the closest library to the Review-Journal -- and in this business, time is money.
