We like taking a break in Mesquite for the same reason readers do: the chance to relax somewhere other than Las Vegas. Mesquite's small-town quaintness may be disappearing bit by bit, along with the landmarks that signaled its past status as an agricultural center. But once you look past the ever-expanding casino corridor, the beauty of the Virgin River and the surrounding hills offers a welcome reminder that the more some things change, others thankfully remain the same.
