Readers' Pick: ZION NATIONAL PARK

  • East of Interstate 15, off state Route 9, in southwestern Utah
It's three-peat time for this perennial pick, a three-hour drive from Las Vegas. But it's not only easy access that makes Zion a forever favorite with Review-Journal readers. The park offers a variety of activities, from strenuous rock climbing to easy hikes. And a number of scenic roadside views mean all you have to do is climb out of your car and gaze heavenward to take in the spectacular sights -- and the equally spectacular spiritual feeling such views inspire. That ski mecca, Brian Head, also scored a three-peat, once again sliding into second place.

    Our Pick: CEDAR CITY

  • Off Interstate 15 in southwestern Utah
Decisions, decisions. If you only have time for a quick getaway, do you go for culture or scenery? You can satisfy both cravings in Cedar City. Home of the Utah Shakespearean Festival, Cedar City also serves as an ideal base for skiing Brian Head or visiting some of America's most spectacular national parks and monuments: the fanciful spires of Bryce Canyon, the imposing cliffs of Zion, the vast amphitheater of Cedar Breaks. But when you're back in town, slow down, take a deep breath of sweet (but thin) mountain air, stroll down Main Street and soak up some small-town charm.
