Wedding ChapelReaders' Pick: LITTLE CHURCH OF THE WESTThe address keeps changing, but the chapel remains the same. Since its 1942 debut, the Little Church of the West has occupied four different sites, most recently moving from the grounds of the Hacienda (which has since been imploded) to a site even further south on the Strip, at Russell Road. But wherever the chapel moves, tradition moves with it. As the first chapel built specifically for Las Vegas' burgeoning wedding industry, the Little Church of the West has earned its place on the National Register of Historic Places -- especially with a celebrity list that includes such multiple marrieds as Mickey Rooney and Zsa Zsa Gabor. They've been married so many times, they ought to know a good chapel when they see one. And so do R-J readers, who escorted Wee Kirk o' the Heather down the aisle to a second-place finish. Our Pick: SILVER BELL WEDDING CHAPELJust to be contrary, we picked a chapel at the northern end of Las Vegas Boulevard -- located downtown, far beyond the confines of the Strip. But the Silver Bell, celebrating its 35th anniversary, is almost as venerable as the Little Church of the West -- and has almost as eclectic a celebrity clientele, from Errol Flynn to Coolio, Diana Ross to Rodney Dangerfield. And if you're hung up on getting hitched -- literally -- you can even get married on horseback. Talk about the ride of your life. |
