Local Male Athlete

Readers' Pick: ANDRE AGASSI

Surprised? You shouldn't be. Andre Agassi is Southern Nevada's own Teflon athlete. Win or lose, well-mannered or potty-mouthed, Agassi remains Southern Nevada's favorite local athlete, although whether he's the "best" is something purists can continue to debate on their own. Atlanta Braves pitcher and multiple Cy Young award-winning hometown boy Greg Maddux polled second.

Our Pick: LUKE SMITH

Luke Smith, originally from Australia and more recently of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, is one of only a few tennis players in NCAA history to win singles and doubles championships in the same year. In May, he won the NCAA singles title and, with former Rebel teammate Tim Blenkiron, the doubles championship. Smith turned pro in June and we're anxious to be able to boast someday that we saw him when.
