Nate -- for some reason, it doesn't seem presumptuous to call him just "Nate" -- has bounced around Southern Nevada's airwaves a bit over the past few years. Now, he's at KVBC-TV, Channel 3, where his bow ties and easygoing manner continue to strike a chord with viewers. In a city where the forecast most of the year isn't much more complicated than "Hellish today, continued hellish tomorrow," Tannenbaum fits well. It's obvious he takes the job seriously, but he's happy to let us know he doesn't treat himself similarly. Sherry Swensk, the early morning weathercaster on KLAS-TV, Channel 8, who knocked Tannenbaum out of first place last year, pulled second place this year.
Our Pick:
TED TEXTOR
We like KTNV-TV, Channel 13's weathercaster, first of all, because he actually left the Cable News Network -- where he spent five years -- to come to Las Vegas. We're flattered. But we like Channel 13's weather guy mostly because of his professionalism. Textor's already shown the right stuff in guiding us through the highs and lows of this wet, El Niñoed winter of '98, and -- considering he's also pulled meteorological duty in such difficult forecasting climes as Buffalo and Detroit -- we're confident we'll be seeing more of the same.
