Place to Swim

Readers' Pick: LAKE MEAD NATIONAL RECREATION AREA

East of Las Vegas off Lake
Mead Drive and State Highway 146
Yes, just looking at Lake Mead during the peak of a Southern Nevada summer is enough to make you feel 15 degrees cooler. And it's just 25 miles away. Here, you can swim among wonderful, wooded scenery. Just be sure to wear tennies on your approach, because some very sharp rocks may lie between you and wet bliss. The Las Vegas Athletic Club's indoor pool was your second-place pick.

Our Pick: GLASS POOL INN

4613 Las Vegas Blvd. South      Definitely a great place to swim, thanks to clear portholes that offer viewers a cool underwater view of dog paddlers. By the time you read this, the famous pool should be finished with its annual wintertime renovation, ready to greet another desert summer. A landmark by any definition, and one that's definitely on the itinerary whenever we show out-of-towners a bit of retro Vegas.
