Introduction to the Best of Las Vegas 1999

The second annual Publisher's Picks are chosen through interviews with a variety of experts in the selected categories. Review-Journal Publisher Sherman Frederick began the tradition last year in an effort to widen recognition given to Las Vegas businesses and individuals.

ONLINE RESULTS: More than 1,600 people cast ballots this year in the third Best of Las Vegas online edition. Voters had 48 categories in which to name their favorites.
The online ballot was tailored specifically for use by both Las Vegas residents and the many out-of-towners who visit the Web site. "More than half the visitors to the Web site are not from Las Vegas," notes Al Gibes, online manager. "We thought it was important to make the ballot general enough for tourists to be able to fill out every category."
