French Restaurant

Readers' Pick: ANDRE'S FRENCH RESTAURANT

401 S. Sixth St.
The dining room of Andre Rochat's flagship restaurant brings to mind a French country home. In fact, once you enter the subdued, charmingly cluttered room, it's almost eerie how easy it is to forget that downtown Las Vegas teems right outside the door. Every dish on Rochat's menu is prepared with impeccable care. It's a place everybody should visit at least once a year just to be reminded of what fine dining is all about. Georges LaForge's Pamplemousse Restaurant -- like Andre's, a perennial Best of Las Vegas favorite -- placed second.

Our Pick: PETITE PROVENCE

3715 S. Decatur Blvd.
We learned about this delightful little restaurant about a year ago, not long after it opened, and are impressed not only with its ability to offer up quality food at comparatively affordable prices but for not thinking us uncultured slobs just because we happened to take German instead of French in high school. The thrust is on simple, country-styled dishes from southeastern France, prepared exquisitely and brought to the table by servers who treat you like family. Wunderbar!
