Mexican Restaurant

Readers' Pick: RICARDO'S MEXICAN RESTAURANT

Multiple locations
You can't argue with Ricardo's success. While the food isn't as authentic as some might prefer, it's consistently well-prepared, tasty and served with a generous hand. It's a family-friendly kind of place, too, and affordable enough to bring the whole brood without breaking the budget. We consider Ricardo's a sort of Mexican Applebee's, and we mean that in the best way possible. Chevys Fresh Mex Restaurant came in second.

Our Pick: LA BARCA SEAFOOD RESTAURANT

953 E. Sahara Ave.
La Barca -- it means, appropriately enough, "the boat" -- in the Commercial Center offers a full menu of excellent, authentic Mexican seafood dishes. In fact, in La Barca's former North Las Vegas digs, it was rare to see Anglos enjoying La Barca's yummy food. Their loss. It's all reasonably priced and the menu includes excellent fish tacos, a humongous shrimp cocktail and a chopped clam tostada that makes us swoon. If you're lucky, you'll even find a great mariachi band playing.
