A restaurant built around produce in a city where you can't throw a tomato without striking a hotel buffet salad bar? Weird. But competing chains Souper Salad and Sweet Tomatoes have made solid culinary beachheads here, and both seem -- as far as we can tell -- to be doing fine business among Las Vegans who'd rather not brave a bank of video poker machines to graze. This year, you gave newcomer Sweet Tomatoes the nod, ending a two-year run by now-runner-up Souper Salad.
Our Pick: SWEET TOMATOES
You wouldn't think a restaurant could do much with the basic salad bar concept. But, at Sweet Tomatoes, the basic salad bar is anything but basic. There's a wonderful array of greens and veggies, intriguing dressings beyond the basic Italian/ranch/orange stuff, and the breadstuffs and soups that are served alongside the produce are top-notch.
