Restaurants in strip malls tend to be hard to find, but enough of you apparently have discovered this chic little place to make it your favorite place that nobody else knows about. Guess you ruined that, didn't you? Anyway, Jazzed is a tiny but sophisticated restaurant where one can enjoy a drink with the feeling that you're in a big-city downtown and not in a strip restaurant in the desert. And we say that with the utmost affection for Las Vegas. Tomatoes Cafe and Portabella tied for second place.
Our Pick: CROWN & ANCHOR PUB
1350 E. Tropicana Ave.
This little gem not far from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas campus offers a cozy British/seafarer ambience, a League-of-Nations array of beers -- the draft roster includes beers from Czechoslovakia, Scotland, Ireland and Germany, while bottled beers from Belgium, Jamaica, Holland, Brazil, Italy and Mexico also can be had -- and a menu of British victuals. We like the all-you-can-eat fish-and-chips special on Mondays, the roast beef or lamb with Yorkshire pudding special on Sunday, and the daily lunch buffet that features everything from corned beef and cabbage to bangers and mash. Cheerio, y'all.
