A wave of new multiplex construction demoted the Redrock, the city's first double-digit screener, to the ranks of "dollar house" (admission is actually $1.50), essentially putting two nearby competitors out of business. On the east side of town it's a different story: The Paradise Dollar Theater squeaked within four votes of victory in this category.

Just for the sake of being different, we'll throw our buck to the Paradise, which undercuts the Redrock by 50 cents and still shows a little of that independent spirit by running "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" at midnight Saturdays. Play that funky "Time Warp" again, transvestite boy!
