Even the slowest afternoon at this longtime east-side community center probably fields more people than bothered to vote in this category. If you skipped it on your ballot, don't skip the array of visual and performing arts available at Winchester center. Last year, the versatile auditorium hosted everything from the edgy, original comedy "Lost Vegas" to the colorful, home-grown Mexico Vivo Dance Company. Silver Springs Recreation Center in Henderson ranked second.
Our Pick: CHARLESTON HEIGHTS ARTS CENTER
800 S. Brush St.
We always loved the cozy auditorium for plays; it's home to many past -- and, with luck, future -- productions by New West Theatre. But when the library part of the building moved to more spacious digs on Charleston Boulevard a few years ago, the city had a great idea to convert the rest of the building into a ballroom. The sprung dance floor is a perfect home for big band concerts that blend well with nearby seniors housing and one of the city's older neighborhoods.
