Place to Dance

Readers' Pick: CLUB RIO

Rio
3700 W. Flamingo Road

The fourth consecutive victory for the Rio's dance club might be termed an upset: Stereotypically, the club crowd heads for whatever's newest and flashiest, and both the MGM's Studio 54 and Luxor's Ra out-advertised Club Rio last year. As a matter of fact, the same underdog things can be said for the rave-leaning Utopia taking second place.

Our Pick: THE ARMADILLO

Texas Station
2101 Texas Star Lane

Admittedly, journalists have a better chance of getting into this casual joint than the ones where big dudes in headsets are on the lookout for tennis shoes, jeans and gravy-stained neckties. But Texas has earned some credit for its successful years with the '80s cover band Loveshack, and now has expanded the definition of "dance" by offering the real thing on Sundays with Jerry Tiffe's swing band.
