The name change didn't fool culture vultures who carried over last year's vote for the former Nevada Dance Theatre, Las Vegas' most successful performing arts organization. The vote of affirmation comes despite patron resistance to moving ballets from Judy Bayley Theatre to the less-popular Cashman Center theater. But first-year artistic director Bruce Steivel deserves the chance to try new things, such as staging last summer's "Romeo and Juliet" outdoors. Actors Repertory Theatre placed a less-than-dramatic second with a handful of votes.
Our Pick: RAINBOW COMPANY
As anybody who sat through "My Favorite Martian" with Junior can tell you, it's hard to find quality entertainment for the whole family these days. Year after year, the Rainbow Company challenges our notions of children's theater. Recently they've thrown us such intriguing titles as "The Noodle Doodle Box" and "No One Will Marry a Princess With a Tree Growing Out of Her Head."
