129 Fremont St.
The Nugget retains its golden luster, winning Review-Journal readers' hearts -- not to mention their votes -- for the sixth straight year. Whether it's the understated luxury of the decor or the bounty of the groundbreaking buffet -- featuring bread pudding and matzo ball soup just like little Stevie Wynn's mother used to make -- the Golden Nugget offers more than a touch of class in sometimes garish Glitter Gulch. Main Street Station finished second -- for the second straight year.
Our Pick: GOLDEN GATE
1 Fremont St.
It's easy to get nostalgic for Lost Vegas, especially when the landscape changes every few weeks. But the Golden Gate, founded in 1906, provides a welcome chance to turn back the hands of time. Everything about this pre-Experience Fremont Street fixture recalls the past: the lively, no-frills casino action; the clubby Bay City Diner; and especially the saloony, old-fashioned atmosphere that makes it easy to imagine the way we were in those desert-outpost days -- before the Strip was a gleam in Bugsy Siegel's blue eyes.
