3700 W. Flamingo Road
Whenever you're stuck in traffic along too-busy Flamingo Road -- which is far too often for anyone's good -- it's carnival time just watching the Rio's confetti-bedecked marquee explode in a neon-rainbow riot. No wonder Review-Journal readers have made the Rio the sign of the times for the seventh straight year. The MGM Grand's towering electronic sign lit up second place, but the Rio's comfortable victory margin should keep those maracas shaking well into the next millennium.
Our Pick: TREASURE ISLAND
3300 Las Vegas Blvd. South
Ahoy, mateys -- and welcome aboard! The grimly grinning visage of Treasure Island's giant Jolly Roger doesn't exactly shiver our timbers, but any literary reference on the Las Vegas Strip gets our vote -- even if lots of people think Steve Wynn, not Robert Louis Stevenson, came up with the name. Besides, we just can't resist the symbolism. After all, a Las Vegas casino might not sail the high seas, but it does represent the ultimate in piracy.
