Readers' Pick: ANDRE AGASSI

Surely less consistent and showing signs of both mental and physical wear and tear, Agassi at 28 is now considered an "OG," or "old gamester," who still can whip anyone on a tennis court on a given day. And, although he's actually a quiet and reserved young man away from competition, his flamboyant image created by Nike keeps the girls (of wide-ranging ages) wondering if he might one day tire of partner Brooke Shields and the way dudes go slack-jawed when she walks into a room. Don't hold your breath. Agassi's high profile has left Atlanta Braves pitcher Greg Maddux stranded at second among voting hometown fans.

Our Pick: RANDALL CUNNINGHAM

A couple of seasons ago, the former University of Nevada, Las Vegas and professional football star quarterback had hung up his spikes and was back home laying tile, hardly thinking of a comeback. But that's just what happened in 1998 when Cunningham, at the age of 35, led the Minnesota Vikings to a remarkable 15-1 regular season. The team fell short of the NFC Championship and a Super Bowl bid, but Cunningham has been signed for a five-year contract extension. He has always been a special talent -- just think how horrible his former Philadelphia Eagles would have been without him -- and we still tip our helmets to a man who deserves a dousing of Gatorade.
