Most Unappreciated Las Vegan

Readers' Pick: BOB STUPAK

They love ya, Bob, they really do! The Pittsburgh-born gaming maverick, who once lured a mainly mom and pop market to his Vegas World hotel with controversial discount packages, was the runaway winner in this new category. Folks apparently feel that Stupak hasn't gotten enough credit for contributions such as the Stratosphere Tower. Jan Jones placed second among readers singling out those deserving of deeper nods of approbation.

Our Pick: JEFF HORTON

Perfection is a goal that's rarely achieved, but University of Nevada, Las Vegas football coach Jeff Horton guided his young charges through an entire season unblemished by victory. His singular skills were impressive to us but resulted in a drop-kick out of his coaching position by his unappreciative employer. However, if UNLV officials had been as excited, supportive and, yes, appreciative of Horton as they appear to be for his famous replacement, former University of Southern California and NFL coach John Robinson, his record might have been better.
