Just to show how dedicated this business is to creating a varied supply of tomes for its customers, the owners actually removed the coffeehouse a few years ago to make room for, what else, books. It is the largest used-book store in town, with more than 400 subject categories, and may be the most comprehensive in the state. Spending an entire afternoon wandering through the place and still only covering a section or two is not unusual. Readers checked out Booktraders for second place.
Our Pick: ALBION BOOK CO.
During a time of cookie-cutter chain establishments, it is refreshing to step into a place that doesn't scream, "Buy me." This cozy establishment was made for browsing at an easy pace, and even supplies the couches for those who just want to sit back and pore over a good story. No swooshing cappuccino machines here, just the sounds of turning pages.
