Does this mark a consumer revolt against Seattle-based corporate megachains that are soon set to storm Europe as well? Maybe. But the more casual air and arguably wider selection of muffins and pastries pushed Jitters back to the top, ending a four-year run for Starbucks. The Java Joint also pushed past last year's winner to finish second.

We also like giving our couple of bucks to a company that isn't concerned with buying up existing European cafes and turning them into paper cup operations. Jitters simply is more comfortable, just like a local bean brewery should be.
