The first close vote in the eats division this year found regular winner Celebrity Deli falling to second place as Samueli's backers eked out a victory for the popular Green Valley deli. Variety is surely among the keys to the upset as Samueli's offers table and booth seating plus separate deli cases for takeout that's kosher when called for.

Hanging sausages and salamis. Cheeses and thick green and purple olives. A guy, or gal, named Montesano talking in westernized Brooklynese behind the counter. Now, that's our idea of what an Italian deli should hit you with the second you swing open the front door, and Montesano's never disappoints. There's a small dining area divided from the deli by shelves stocked with imported goods.
