Big things come in small packages, and we're not talking about the calorie count of the typical piece of cheesecake. The unimposing entrance to the Cheesecake Factory at the end of the new mall extension is unimposing enough. But get past the takeout counter and you'll find a large, double-tiered dining room where some 200 variations of cheesecake are only part of an extensive menu. Yes, you can even find a low-cal platter but, if you've walked this far, why not try out the winner's signature dish? Last year's winner, Marie Callender's, generated enough support to secure second place.

It's hard to argue with success, and the Cheesecake Factory always seems to have a good-sized crowd ahead of us when we make the march down the faux Roman mall streets. And while the prices can unexpectedly raise an eyebrow once in awhile, the creamy-textured white stuff (with myriad toppings) makes the bill forgettable. Plus, because there are no convenient exits at the ends of the mall, you can begin working off a few calories on the backtrack hike past the shops.
