Best Gourmet Restaurant

Rosemary's Restaurant gets the nod
from the R-J staff for gourmet restaurant.
Readers' Pick:
ANDRE'S FRENCH RESTAURANT
401 S. Sixth Street
Hmm. Maybe we should place a few other categories in between "French" and "gourmet" as Andre's again comes away as the readers' choice for upscale food in an atmosphere that's more Provence than Pahrump. However, as hotel chefs begin to drift away to go it alone, we're seeing restaurants such as Rosemary's, opened by chef Michael Jordan, who headed the kitchen at breakthrough Emeril's New Orleans Fish House for several years. His first solo venture obviously is doing well as it came within just a few votes of unseating Andre's.

Our Pick:
ROSEMARY'S RESTAURANT
8125 W. Sahara Ave.
Well, why not? Michael and Wendy Jordan's haute new restaurant has been getting great word-of-mouth advertising, and recent staff visits have confirmed all the verbal props. This is a "business casual" kind of place. Translation: Guys won't have to borrow an old paisley tie to ruin the look of that expensive sport coat to get in the place. The coolly elegant ambience is more than matched by the "New American Fare," which means a hodgepodge of international influences given fresh interpretations. All in all, a pretty impressive start for a restaurant that opened less than a year ago.
