Best New Restaurant

Mailbu Chan's gets the nod from the R-J staff.

Readers' Pick:
ROSEMARY'S RESTAURANT
8125 W. Sahara Ave.
The kudos keep coming for Michael and Wendy Jordan's tasty new entry in the nation's hottest restaurant market, where a projected restaurant-sales growth of 7.7 percent in 2000 would be more than double the projected 3.5 percent growth for the entire country. Rosemary's customers will contribute to the upswing, gladly, even if some are already fearing what might happen (long waits, perhaps?) now that their dining secret has gone public. The same can be said for fans of second-place finisher, the Tenaya Creek Restaurant and Brewery that opened last fall.

Our Pick:
MALIBU CHAN'S
8125 W. Sahara Ave.
Just a few doors away from Rosemary's, this new restaurant highlights modern California-style cuisine, meaning there's a decided Asian influence to many of the unusual dishes coming out of the open kitchen. The reasonably priced entrees taste as good as they are presented. Bring a group, experiment and share some varied dishes and we guarantee each diner will go away with a positive vision of what they'll order (just for themselves) when they return.
