Best Magician

After redefining entertainment on the Strip in the '90s, Siegfried & Roy charged into 2000 with another Best Magician nod from the readers.

Readers' Pick:
SIEGFRIED & ROY
The Mirage 3400 Las Vegas Blvd. South
This victory might pale next to the Magicians of the Century award recently bestowed on the duo by the International Magicians Society. We're still not sure if that means the veteran team knocked Houdini out of the last century, of if they've got the next 99 years already claimed. But there's no denying their Mirage show owned the ¹90s, and paved the way for every other magic act on the Strip. David Copperfield levitated to second place.

Our Pick:
LANCE BURTON
Monte Carlo
3770 Las Vegas Blvd. South
Last year's readers' pick, this year's staff pick. In 1998, he was the choice of both. There's no magic needed to explain Lance Burton's consistently strong show at the Monte Carlo, and Burton remains a good guy who is modest even with his own success. Yes, the price went up this year, but not by much: Last year's top ticket of $44.95 is now the balcony price, while floor seats go for $49.95 -- still $45 less than the white tiger guys.
