Guest Pick: Best Hotel Gourmet Restaurant

DISTRICT JUDGE JOSEPH BONAVENTURE

The judge laughs when informed he's a local celebrity, thanks to his presiding at the murder trial last year of Sandra Murphy and Rick Tabish, in connection with the death of Lonnie Ted Binion.

He also laughs when asked to name his favorite gourmet restaurant in a Las Vegas hotel.

Joseph Bonaventure calls himself a blue-collar kind of guy, and warns, "I'm not the type of guy to go to this Renoir, Picasso and LeCirque (noted Strip restaurants). I can't even pronounce the names."

But he says he did have a "heckuva steak" recently at Austins Steakhouse inside Texas Station, 2101 Texas Star Lane, and nominates the restaurant for hotel gourmet honors.

"I had a nice T-bone steak. ... You could see the natural flavor of the beef. It was really aged perfectly and cooked perfectly," Bonaventure recalls. He also liked Austins for its nice selection of California wines.
