Guest Pick: Best Record Store

LAS VEGAS PHILHARMONIC CONDUCTOR HAL WELLER

Music director Hal Weller, who conducts the Las Vegas Philharmonic, often buys records through amazon.com for convenience and selection. But he still enjoys leafing through bins at the Tower Records/WOW Multimedia Superstore at 4580 W. Sahara Ave.

"A classical-music person really doesn't need to go to a record store to buy any longer," Weller says.

But physically handling records helps Weller frequently spot unexpected finds, including re-releases of old albums.

"I'm always in for a good surprise," he says.

(By the way, his favorite album is 1990's "Rachmaninoff: Vespers." It's an a cappella concert with Robert Shaw and the Robert Shaw Festival Singers at a French music festival.)
