Guest Pick: Favorite Dead Las Vegan

Comedian Pat Cooper

"Who's dead?" Pat Cooper barely hesitates. "Wayne Newton."

"He's been dead for years. His ego is pumpin' oil," says Cooper, one of Las Vegas' funniest people. "The ship hasn't sailed, it's sunk."

What happened to Newton?

"Nothing happened. At the time he was a young man, it worked. Everything worked. The persona. 'Danke Schoen. Danke Schoen.'"

"But no one's told him that it's done," he adds.

"I don't understand these guys" who hang onto their old acts, Cooper says. "They're content. How much more can you spend? How many steaks can you eat? ... They're over. I'm over. And if I'm over, look at these guys!"
