Guest Pick: Best Mexican Restaurant

Art Critic and UNLV Professor Dave Hickey

University of Nevada, Las Vegas professor Dave Hickey raves about his favorite Mexican place, El Choncho, 2560 S. Maryland Parkway.

That's where Hickey -- art critic and winner of a coveted 2001 MacArthur Foundation Fellowship with its $500,000 no-strings-attached prize -- eats chili relleno and watches Mexican soap operas, because on Mexican soap operas, "the girls are cuter," he says.

"It's this little bitty Mexican restaurant in the shopping center" at Maryland Parkway and Sahara Avenue, says Hickey.

"It's just a straight-ahead, old-time Mexican restaurant, but it's relatively new, and it's nicely run."
