In the beginning, the 2002 Rebels' season under new coach Charlie Spoonhour ranged from snooze-worthy to cringe-worthy. But a funny thing happened on the way to the T&M: The Rebels roared to life during the Mountain West campaign, winning 12 of their final 15 games, losing the conference title by three measly points and extending their season by competing in the National Invitation Tournament -- after those NCAA boneheads refused to invite one of the hottest teams in the country to the Big Dance. The Rebels score once again in this category, with the 51s batting second.
